I Want To…

Changing the Windows Password

To change the Windows password:

  1. Log on to Verifi ID Manager.
  2. In Verifi ID Manager, select I Want To ... > Change Windows Password. The Verifi ID Manager Registration Wizard is displayed.
  3. Type your old Windows password, then type and confirm the desired new password.
  4. Select Finish to complete the operation.

Registering Fingerprints

To register your fingerprints:

  1. Log on to Verifi ID Manager.
  2. In Verifi ID Manager, select I Want To ... > Register Fingerprints. The Verifi ID Manager Registration Wizard is displayed.
  3. Using the mouse, select the finger for the registration. By default, the right index finger is selected.
  4. Follow the instructions shown above the progress bar on the wizard dialog box. Depending on the type of fingerprint reader, you are prompted either to place or swipe your finger over the fingerprint sensor to complete enrollment.
  5. When the system collects a few finger impressions, you are prompted to submit one or more fingerprints (using the same finger) to complete verification.
  6. When verification is complete, select Finish to complete the registration operation, or select another finger for registration.

Note
It is recommended to register at least two fingers per user account. Index fingers are preferable.

Registering Smart Cards or Tokens

To register a smart card or USB token:

  1. Log on to Verifi ID Manager.
  2. In Verifi ID Manager, select I Want To ... > Register Smart Card or Token. The Token Registration Wizard is displayed.
  3. On the Device Type dialog box, select the desired type of device, and then select Next. Select Token dialog box is displayed.
  4. If a smart card or USB token was selected as the device type, make sure that smart card is inserted or the token is connected to a USB port.

Note
If the smart card is not inserted or the USB token is not connected, the Next button is disabled in Select Token dialog box.

On the Device Type dialog box, select Next. Token Properties dialog box is displayed.

  1. Type the User PIN, select Register smart card or token for authentication, and then select Finish to complete the operation.

To register a virtual token:

  1. Log on to Verifi ID Manager.
  2. In Verifi ID Manager, select I Want To ... > Register Smart Card or Token. The Token Registration Wizard is displayed.
  3. On the Device Type dialog box, select Virtual Token as device type, and then select Next. Virtual Token Name and Location dialog box is displayed.
  4. Specify the token name and location. A new virtual token can be stored either in a file or in the Windows registry database. Select Next to continue.
  5. On the Token Properties dialog box, specify the Master PIN and User PIN for the newly created virtual token, select Register smart card or token for authentication, and then select Finish to complete the operation.

Note
The system allows to register several different tokens for every supported device type.

Registering Credentials

To register credentials:

  1. Launch Verifi ID Manager, log on to Verifi ID Manager and select I Want To … > Register Credentials

Note
If you have logged on to Verifi ID Manager during logon to Windows, you do not need to log on again from Verifi ID Manager.

  1. In the popup menu, select Register Credentials. The Verifi ID Manager Registration Wizard is displayed.
  2. On Authentication Methods dialog box, select the desired authentication methods, clear the methods you do not wish to register at this time, and then select Next.

Note
By default, the system offers to register credentials that are not yet registered by the user.

  1. Submit the credentials.

Note
If you have selected several authentication methods for registration, the Registration Wizard will guide you through additional screens for submission of the selected credentials.

  1. Select Finish to complete the registration.

You will be able to log on to the system with any of the registered credentials permitted to your account.

Changing the Token PIN

A personal identification number (PIN) is any personal number required to secure your data on a smart card or token against unauthorized use. It is a good practice to change the PIN from time to time to ensure maximum confidentiality.

To change the Token PIN, perform the following steps:

  1. Log on to Verifi ID Manager.
  2. In Verifi ID Manager, select I Want To ... > Change Token PIN. 
  3. The Change PIN Wizard is displayed.
  4. On the Device Type dialog box, select the desired type of device, and then select Next.
  5. On the Select Token dialog box, select the token for which you want to change the PIN, and then select Next.
  6. On the User PIN dialog box, type the old PIN and the new PIN twice to confirm, and then select Finish to complete the operation.

Note
If you enter the incorrect PIN for the token several times in sequence, the token gets locked out. You will be unable to use this token until you unlock it.

Editing the User Profile

To modify the user profile:

  1. Log on to Verifi ID Manager and open the Identity Panel.
  2. In the left menu, select Edit Profile. My Identity dialog box is displayed.
  3. Modify the desired user data, and then select OK to save the changes.

Removing My Identity from the System

To remove a user identity from the system:

  1. Log on to Verifi ID Manager.
  2. In Verifi ID Manager, select I Want To ... > Remove My Identity from the System.
  3. In the message box, select OK to confirm the identity removal.

Note
After the identity removal operation is complete, you will be forced to log off from the Verifi ID Manager. The next time you log on, you can use the Windows password only.

Back Up an Identity

Verifi ID Manager provides the ability to back up identity details. The User Identity can be restored in case of data loss or corruption. You can take a backup of the identity with which you have logged on.

To back up an Identity:

  1. Log on to Verifi ID Manager.
  2. In Verifi ID Manager, select I Want To ... > Backup Identity.
  3. Backup Identity Wizard is displayed.
  4. On the Identity Elements screen, check the identity elements that you wish to back up, and then select Next.
  5. On the Device Type screen, select a device type you would like to use.
  6. Follow the directions on the screen to specify the required information, and then select Next until you reach the last step.
  7. Select Finish to complete the last step of the wizard.

Note
Keep the backup file in a safe place. The backup will be needed in case identity information is lost.

Restore an Identity

Verifi ID Manager provides the ability to restore an identity detail that was backed up earlier. In order to restore an identity, you need to log off from the current identity.

To restore a backed-up identity:

  1. Log on to Verifi ID Manager.
  2. In Verifi ID Manager, select I Want To ...
  3. In the popup menu, select Restore Identity. Restore Identity Wizard is displayed.

Note
You may restore the user identity when you are logged off the Verifi ID Manager. In this case the restore identity operation is available from Verifi ID Manager icon menu in the task bar notification area.

  1. On the Device Type screen, the type of device on which the user identity was backed up, and then select Next.
  2. If the user identity was stored in secure file, specify the file location and pass phrase, and then select Finish to complete the operation.  

If the user identity was stored on a smart card or token, connect the smart card or token, specify the User PIN, and select Finish to complete the operation.

13. Locking the Computer

To secure a computer when the user is away from the desk, the Lock Workstation feature may be employed. This prevents an unauthorized user from gaining access to the computer. Only the authorized user and members of the administrator's group on the computer can unlock it.

To lock your computer:

  1. In Verifi ID Manager, select I Want To ...
  2. In the popup menu, select Lock Workstation to lock your computer immediately.

Installation

 

Problem: I can not find the drivers for the fingerprint reader.

Resolution Step 1: Plug the fingerprint reader into the computer and let Windows Update automatically download the latest drivers.

Resolution Step 2: Install Verifi ID, the drivers will install with the software.

Resolution Step 3: Explore the Verifi ID CD and execute the ATMinInst.msi file.

Problem: I get an error message during installation of the software.

Resolution Step 1: Ensure that all spyware and antivirus software are disabled and try the installation again.

Resolution Step 2: Copy the contents of the CD to the hard drive and try to reinstall the program.

Fingerprint Enrollment

 

Problem: When I try to enroll my fingerprint it says it can not detect my fingerprint reader.

Resolution Step 1: Ensure that the reader is plugged into the computer and that is shows up in the Hardware Manager as either AES3400 or AES4000.

Resolution Step 2: Have the customer unplug the reader and plug it back into the computer.

Resolution Step 3: Insert the Verifi ID CD, explore the CD, locate the Diagnostics folder and have them run ATDiag in that folder. (Possible hardware failure detected)

SSO

Problem: Verifi ID does not save my usernames and passwords.

Resolution Step 1: Ask if they are using Internet Explorer as their browser; if not then say that it only works with Internet Explorer.

Resolution Step 2: Does the SSO box appear in the upper right-hand corner of the browser? If yes then have them click on it to register the web page.

Resolution Step 3: If it does not appear in the upper right-hand corner then have them make sure they are logged into Verifi ID.

Windows Login

Problem: Windows does not prompt me for a fingerprint when logging in.

Resolution Step 1: Ensure that the Fingerprint reader is plugged into the computer.

Resolution Step 2: Ensure that the domain is Verifi ID on the drop down list.

Resolution Step 3: Have them click on More then uncheck Use Last Policy.

Problem: I can not log into Verifi ID/Computer with my fingerprint/the computer does not recognize my fingerprint.
